Brother's Grimm
Ok... saw this movie last night. Like all Terry Gilliam films, the guy has an amazing visual style. A friend pointed out that if he and Tim Burton ever collaborated -- HOLY COW!
Also, like all Terry Gilliam films, the films look great, usually have a cool story, but somehow "feel" long... even though it is under two hours. Takes a film buff maybe to understand it.
I enjoyed the film. Heath Ledger was very good in the role, being quite a departure from his usual fare. Matt Damon was well... Matt Damon. A good actor.
The female lead was Lena Headey ... looks like Jacqueline Bisset's younger sister. Very beautiful, and was convincing in the role.
Go see it. Have fun.

I agree with you on the "length" paradox of Gilliam's films. I think it comes from the fact that in many of his films, he leads you down a path to an expected conclusion, and then at the last second, throws in a twist which steers the storyline away from that conlusion. This is when you realize that there's a lot more story to be told before the film wraps up. And he'll do this two, maybe three times in a movie.
In addition, his films are so intellectual and filled with so many distractions along the way, that the viewer must really work hard when watching his films. And it can be draining.
If "Titanic" was a three-hour stroll in the park, a Gilliam film is a two-hour run in the sand — uphill.
That's also a very accurate description.
Those two directors both have their own unique visual style. How would they ever agree on anything?
I think you are right they both have incredibly unique styles, but if they di dmanage to agree on a style, it would more than likely be impressive as hell.
