Remember, there is always two sides...

— I got this from a friend, tis' humorous. For your consideration only, not my opinion —

Things I have learned from watching the news on TV during the last eight days:

• The hurricane only hit black families' property.
• New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
• Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
• New Orleans has no white people.
• The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
• When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.
• The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans. Now the city is welfare-free, has no looters and no gangs. They are in your city.
• White folks don't make good news stories.
• Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.
• Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.
• Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid.

Freakin' hilarious!!

Yeah, those stupid black people. They should know better than to be too poor to afford their own cars. But hey, they're making out like bandits now, with all the money they're getting from the white people! Yeehaw!

And how about all the news coverage the poor, black people always get, especially if one is kidnapped or murdered. Sometimes they'll devote weeks of coverage when one goes missing while vacationing in Aruba or something. Or if a black child goes missing in a major city there's all this news coverage and when a white child from the suburbs goes missing...nothing. Wow!

Man, white people always get such a raw deal!!

And the stupid media. Covering only the negative stuff. How about covering what a fantastic job the local, state and federal goverments did in responding to the crisis. Bush even cut short his vacation and came back just a mere three days after Katrina hit . And covering New Orleans so much just because its a major U.S. city that now resembles a Third -world country? Gee, you'd think it was more devastating than 9/11 or something.

The black people and the media. Boy are they stupid!

Actually, you are missing the point. First of all, please note this was direct quote from a Professor from Missouri. I put it up not in an attempt to downplay the tragedy, but to show that the news coverage, for the most part, had put a racial slant on the disaster when it wasn't necessary to do so.

The title of the entry is "Remember there is always two sides..." I appreciate your comments, they are valid.

Am there really two sides?
The only side much of the media ever has is their own gain. Ratings. Sensationalism for the sake of corporate advantage over the competition. (In the case of NPR, the competition being the Republican Party...)
Shame shame shame.
