The chess part was brilliant, and a great feat of memorization. But it is irrelevant to his "guessing" the number. I don't know how it's done (my guess is a sleight of hand switcheroo), but I've seen the same trick done with different variations. I think he purposely guesses the first number wrong to make it more believable. The thing to remember is that it is a "trick" and has nothing to do with the chess games.
I also love our movie dates.
