It's Monday

Well - after the first week with the new roommate I can already feel a difference in me as my energy levels are already higher then before. I walk her twice a day (three times if you include lunch) and out walking distances are already longer. Soon I plan on riding my bike (she's a cattle dog and needs to run).

I saw Stranger Than Fiction yesterday. I really enjoyed it. Not your typical Will Farrell.

More to come a little later. I have to go be Instructor guy now... Tweed jacket anyone?

Roger...do NOT NOT NOT ride a bike while walking your dog. It is extremely dangerous to the dog (and you could get hurt, too). No animal grasps the concept of machines. Pixie doesn't have a grasp of the braking distance or turning radius of a bicycle. Or that you could fall off of it after running her over.
This is a massive no-no. (Like people jogging in summer heat with dogs who were never designed for either the running or the heat. Thoose who actually care enough about the dog to think about it assume that all dogs are dingos or wolves in different packages. Right, and all humans are world class marathon runners.)
Walk the dog. Then take a bike ride. Or vice versa. Do NOT NOT NOT walk the dog with your bike. There are other ways to let her run than that.
Or are you going to be that guy...the one who does what he wants regardless of how it's turned out for the other 1,000,000 people who've tried it and paid the heavy price for being wrong?)
And walking is better exercise.

Rog?
Looking at the last so many posts, all of which could have/should have generated comments...and didn't...Is your readership down to three people (counting you)?

Sorry skylemming, but I fully disagree. There are many people who run their dogs while riding bikes. Many professional trainers even say it is a good way to run a dog. You do have to train the dog to run with the dog though, but it isn't a horrible idea as you state. Sure there have been accidents with dogs and bikes, but it is certainly not an epidemic.

If Roger establishes himself as the leader of the pack Pix will have no problem running along. It is mainly the people who don't properly train their dogs that get in accidents when the dog tries to become the leader.

It doesn't have to be an epidemic. It only has to be you and your dog and you won't forgive yourself.
Plus, riding a bike at this speed will give you virtually zero exercise, Rog'. A human on a bike is about the most efficient form of land locomotion known. The exercise comes with speed, with hills, with duration and with combinations of the three. Most of us who ride bikes don't actually burn a heck of a lot of calories (thousands of miles in the last few years and you should see me).

You have to establish dominance. You have to be the pack leader.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Eight months of recovery my cracked rib is still nearly as painful as back when that stupid dog dashed under my bike wheel from out of nowhere and caused me to wipe out. If you want to believe you will not have an accident that is your choice but you are taking a large, unnecessary risk. There are better ways to exercise and better ways to walk a dog. Save your cash and don't get one of those dog bike things. Dogs don't like them.
